Jim and I share ownership of a perfect red and white rat terrier named Abi. Abi is getting to be a bit of an older dog now, a few white hairs have blended into the red. And she's lost her girlish figure a few miles back...
Once Abi had a litter of pups and each one was more precious than the one before. The only puppy Abi ever had that looked like her was Pirate. He was a lovely little white dog with a perfect patchwork face of red and white. He was so much like Abi. Even at a very young age he walked perfectly on the lease, and had very good senses. You can't keep every puppy but this one was an especially hard one to let go. Cute and smart. What can you say...
One day I met a man. This man's name was John. He was a strong young man, energetic, hard-working and had the makings of a lovely little family. He already had a baby son, Hunter, and his wife seemed like a very nice person. I had gone in the local fence supply store with little Pirate my sidekick. I really wanted to find him a good home, and was in there to test the "waters..." John liked him right away. And of course the wife was a pushover with that darling baby boy, for Pirate to grow up with. We made a deal and they took my pup.
Well, now it's been some years. Hunter is seven years old and has a four year old sister. John told me several very exciting stories about Pirate, now called Dutch, adventures he's had and what a fighter he is. Yes, Pirate is still alive, and hanging in there with John. John has given the pup a great exciting life, chasing wild pigs, being a tough little terrier boy. And I'm sure the baby has grown up loving little Dutch. And it just doesn't get much better than that. Thank you John. You're a good man in my book.
